Michigan Home Insurance a Must for Those Living in Metropolitan Areas

|

According to a report from WAFF-TV, four men were arrested for breaking into a home in Greenhill, Alabama last June 17, 2014 and stealing several possessions:

Lauderdale Country

“The burglars stole firearms, cash and jewelry from the home. Investigators said a witness saw the men in a pickup truck at the home and called the homeowner and the sheriff’s department.

The truck was located and deputies took three men and a juvenile into custody during a traffic stop.

Investigators found additional items from another home that was broken into on Tuesday on County Road 51 in Lexington.”

Although this incident occurred in Alabama, it can definitely happen here in Michigan as well. In fact, the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that 140,589 cases of larceny occurred in Michigan in 2010. As such, residents living in metropolitan areas are highly encouraged to purchase Michigan home insurance.

Yes, home insurance covers more than just your home from fires and storms. Standard home insurance also protects your home from criminal acts like vandalism and theft. In the case of theft, your insurance company will reimburse you the cash value of your stolen possessions so you can promptly have these items replaced.

Did you know that on many standard home insurance policies children’s personal property is also included? According to insurance experts, the personal items that your child brings along to his/her college are covered by your insurance policy. It is important to note, however, that this coverage works only if your child stays in the campus’ dorms; otherwise, he or she will need a separate insurance policy.

Of course, what constitutes as “standard” differs from state to state and from insurance policy to insurance policy. With that in mind, be sure to look for one that addresses all your needs and concerns. To do this, you may want to ask for help from a trusted Michigan homeowners’ insurance brokerage like Allied Insurance Managers, Inc.

One last tip: keep inventory and pictures of all your belongings, and place them in a secure location. In the event of theft, the inventory and pictures will help you and the insurance company determine the cash value of these items. In turn, this will help speed up the claim process.
