This year the Allied staff worked with three local charities to help families in need. It was a huge success and we really appreciate these fine organizations.
Our first team chose to donate to Lighthouse of Oakland County. Each year Lighthouse puts on a Thanksgiving project providing meals to local families in need. Our team dropped off the donated food at All Saints Church of Pontiac. We also donated a number of non-Thanksgiving items that will be put into their food pantry for distribution throughout the year. Lighthouse offers a number of different charitable services and holiday programs to Oakland County families. They also offer emergency services for food, housing, utilities, medical, transportation and other crisis situations.
Our second team chose to donate to The Detroit Area Diaper Bank. This year was the 5th annual Fall Diaper Drive. This charity provides diapers for low-income households, the elderly and people with disabilities. Most people do not know this but there is no assistance for diapers through WIC, SNAP or Medicare. Diapers are a huge hole in the “safety net” and we helped fulfill a large need for nonprofits and state agencies working with families in crisis.
Our final team chose to donate to The Rochester Area Neighbor House (RANH). They organized food baskets for five families in need. Each basket included all the Thanksgiving trimmings, a gift certificate for a turkey, and gift cards for a fun family night out. RANH serves Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Oakland Township, and Addison Township. They have a a retail-like environment providing gently used clothing and small household items to families in need. They also provide Counseling Services and Financial Assistance to those in need.
Well done Allied and Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!
